Thoughtful writing, Brendan. But do you see this operation as a potentially "closed" given the corporate focus?

There was an interesting panel discussion with some of these elements at Tunxis the other day.

I think a nice solution/compromise would be an accredited local news blog/website featuring educated journalists, reporters and editors. Basically, all or most of the elements of a local paper but in a digital format with less overhead cost.

If done in an uncluttered and professional way it would serve the community just as well.

It is a shame Mr. Collins I read the Press everyday. I believe your true about coherent local news. I don't expect everyday blogger to replace journalist but I believe there is a damaging shift now for online news .

Local news will never be available in any coherent way without something like a daily paper, whether it's in print or online. Bloggers and such -- which I am, too -- can't fill the role of professional reporters and editors.
What's happening at the Press is a tragedy.

I know susan that song reminds me of summertime and nestling by a crackling fire. Thanks for the link, as you can tell I was disturbed by the voyerism that was displayed on these online massive multiplayer worlds.

You raise some interesting questions about the nature of man and the players of games and I've linked to this from my own posting on Hypercompendia. But damn; that song won't go out of my head now!

I have seen a lot of people, viewing the trailers, complaining about differences between the film and the original comics (ie calling themselves the watchmen, Dr. Manhattan wearing pants). Whenever someone makes a film adaptation of a comic book, I hope they capture the spirit of the characters, and that the film is memorable. If there are minor changes from the comic and the screenplay, I can live with it as long as the film is executed well. I have waited like forever to see this movie, And I am definitely not going to complain if Dr. Manhattan's blue privates are not hanging out for two and a half hours (especially if Rorshach is lighting people on fire and stuff!).

A very interesting post. I think your point about Joycean cycles is very good, and not wildely understood.

I'm having a devil of a time, though, finding who you are, or what (and where) you write!
